Reasons for the PG-13 Rating:

  1. Language, Including Racial Slurs
The movie portrays the harsh realities faced by the all-Black, all-female 6888th Battalion during World War II. Part of this includes historically accurate depictions of racism, where racial slurs and discriminatory language are used. While these elements are included to provide authenticity and context, they can be sensitive for younger viewers.
  2. Thematic Material
The Six Triple Eight explores powerful and serious themes such as racism, sexism, and the perseverance of marginalized communities under systemic oppression. These elements, while inspiring, deal with complex and intense subject matter that may be difficult for younger audiences to fully process.
  3. War Violence
Although the movie focuses on the battalion’s work behind the frontlines, it doesn’t shy away from showing the larger backdrop of World War II. Scenes include glimpses of war-related violence, emotional distress, and the hardships faced by soldiers and civilians alike. These depictions, while not overly graphic, add to the film’s emotional weight and realism.

Storyline:

Set during the height of World War II in 1943, The Six Triple Eight captures the journey of the 6888th Battalion. As the war intensifies, an overwhelming backlog of undelivered mail begins to pile up in warehouses. For soldiers on the frontlines, this mail represents a lifeline to their families and hope amidst chaos.

In response to the crisis, over 800 courageous women from the all-Black, all-female 6888th Battalion are assigned the nearly impossible task of clearing years’ worth of mail. Despite facing racism, sexism, and skepticism from military leadership who expected them to fail, these women rise above adversity. Through their relentless effort and unity, they sort millions of letters and packages, restoring soldiers’ morale and proving their incredible worth to the war effort.
